NWT Uranium has been active in uranium exploration in Niger since 2006. In the summer of 2007, NWT entered into an agreement with UraMin Inc. (which has since been acquired by Areva) to pool their Niger uranium properties in a new organization, Niger Uranium Ltd. The new company is focused exclusively on uranium exploration in Niger and holds a total of eight properties covering 1,673,644 acres (6,773 square kilometers). NWT Uranium is actively involved in Niger Uranium and is the company's largest shareholder.

Niger Uranium's eight properties are Irhazar, In Gall, Kamas 1 to 4, and Dabala 3 and 4.

The Irhazer and In Gall properties, contributed by NWT Uranium, cover 4,000 square kilometers and are located south of Areva's Imouraren project. Irhazer and In Gall have returned uranium values ranging from 0.22% U3O8 to 1.0% U3O8 from five of 16 surface rock samples collected from outcrops. (Producing mines and deposits in Niger typically grade from 0.1% to 0.42% U3O8, with the highest grades being mined at greater depths.)

Kamas 1 to 4 and Dabala 3 and 4, contributed by UraMin (since acquired by Areva), are adjacent and situated north of SOMAIR's successful uranium-producing Arlit mine.
